As the name suggests, nbn® 250 plans offer download speeds of 250 Mbps, which is more than twice as fast as the next speed tier down (the nbn® 100 plan). To match those superfast download speeds, nbn® 250 plans give you upload speeds of up to 25 Mbps.

While 100 Mbps is usually enough for the average home, if you work from home, need to download large files quickly or take your gaming seriously, nbn® Superfast may better suit your needs.

If you have intensive broadband needs, nbn® 250 plans will keep your connection smooth and fast.

Can I get nbn® home superfast?

To connect to nbn® Superfast, you’ll need to have a specific internet connection type to your premises. nbn® 250 is a type of FTTP plan.

If your property has a fibre to the premises (FTTP) or hybrid fibre coaxial (HFC) connection, you should be able to sign up for nbn® 250 plan. You can find out whether your address is eligible over here.

If your property isn’t already connected to FTTP technology, you probably won’t need long. NBN Co. projects that they will have connected 10 million premises – that’s about 90% of homes and businesses across Australia – to FTTP by the end of 2025.

    Am I eligible for nbn® 250?

    Certain types of internet connections are required in Australia to access nbn® 250 plans. For nbn® Superfast, you’ll need a fibre to the premises (FTTP) or hybrid fibre coaxial (HFC) connection at your property. You can verify your eligibility by checking your address here.

    If you don’t have FTTP yet, it’s in progress. NBN Co. aims to connect 90% of Australian homes and businesses to FTTP by 2025.

    How fast is nbn® 250?

    With nbn® 250, you can enjoy download speeds of up to 250 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 25 Mbps. This would allow you to download a 5 GB file in a little over three minutes, and stream ultra-high-definition video content on multiple devices without any buffering or lag. With an upload speed of 25 Mbps, you can easily upload large files to cloud storage or share them online.

    The actual speeds you receive with nbn® 250 might vary depending the capacity of equipment used by your internet service provider (ISP), network congestion and the distance from the nbn® connection box.

    What does nbn® 250 25 mean?

    The first number in nbn® 250/25 refers to the maximum download speed this plan offers (250 Mbps). The second number refers to the maximum upload speed on the plan (25 Mbps).

    Is 250 Mbps fast enough for Netflix?

    A download speed of 250 Mbps is more than sufficient for streaming Netflix content.

    The recommended internet speed for streaming Netflix’s Ultra HD (4K) content is 25 Mbps, so with nbn® 250 plans, you can effortlessly stream Netflix content in the best quality possible, without buffering or lag.
